Flow of Russian oil boosted Port of Tallinn’s turnover in August

Print versionIn August 2010 2.349 tonne-metres of oil products were processed in the Port of Tallinn, most of which was fuel oil of Russian origin, writes LETA/Äripäev.ee.

The processing volumes grew by 21% in comparison to the same month last year while the growth was nearly 4% in the month-on-month comparison.
Estonia has traditionally been the principal link in Russian oil transit and the volumes through the country stay stable despite Russia’s plans to re-direct the transit flow.
Last year the Russian deputy Prime Minister Sergey Ivanov that the transit of Russian oil products on the railroad via Estonia would “completely be ceased within the next year.”
According to him the current transit routes are to be replaced with the Ust-Luga port, but the opening of the port is behind schedule and is having trouble opening new terminals.
