Since July 19, when the Riga Airport first turned to the court claiming that airBaltic settle its debt to the airport of over LVL 2.5 million, the airline has not made a single payment, which is why its debt has increased to LVL 3.4 million by now, the airport explains.
According to the airport, airBaltic ran up a debt of more than LVL 2.5 million by not paying for various airport services since end-2009, writes LETA.
As reported, the airport has also asked the court to arrest airBaltic payments to third parties, as well as the airline's funds in credit institutions and other financial institutions, to secure its claim.
The airport emphasizes that the lawsuit is an unpleasant and extreme step, but it is in interest of the company and its shareholder – the state of Latvia.
LETA already reported that the Riga Regional Court on July 26 opened civil proceedings concerning the airport's claim for debt payments of more than LVL 2.5 million from airBaltic.
The Riga Airport points out that airBaltic defaulting on its payments has affected the airport's development plans regarding the construction of a new passenger terminal.
