"The experience of other countries shows that very often private investors are involved in the development of such terminals, they are using a lot of such gas, as well as those foreign companies that have a lot of experience or are producing liquefied gas themselves. But we see it as an infrastructure project in which the state should play a dominant role," says Kubilius.
The head of the Government also stated that the liquefied gas terminal project would be realized making use of the state-owned Klaipedos Nafta company, however, the very place of the terminal is not linked with the territory of that company, reports LETA/ELTA.
The prime minister said that the liquefied gas terminal would allow Lithuania to strengthen energy independence and liberate from the prices dictated by monopoly suppliers. Andrius Kubilius reminded a dangerous situation when there were attempts to limit gas supplies to Lithuania because of the disagreements between Russia and Belarus. The head of the Government also drew attention to the fact that Lithuania was paying 100 dollars more for 1,000 cubic metres of gas to Gazprom than elsewhere in Europe.
The prime minister admitted that it was a mistake to privatize Lietuvos dujos the way it was privatized.
