In July, 223 new cars were sold, which is 2.1 times less than in June. In July, the worst showings in the number of new cars sold were registered. The most successful month for car dealers was January – 494 units sold, whereas the least profitable month so far was April, when 327 new cars were registered.
As LPAA executive director Olafs Ozols previously informed LETA, such tendencies are not worth to be discussed. Each month the number of cars sold both increases, and decreases, and these numbers range from 40 to 50 units. He also forecasts that similar figures are expected to be reached in the next months.
Due to different figures in July, the list of car sales leaders have changed – "Volkswagen" has overtaken "Toyota". Overall 449 "Toyota" cars were sold this year, which is by 71.7% less than a year ago. This year, "Volkswagen" have sold 283 cars, which is by 80.4% less than a year ago.
In third place is "Mitsubishi" with 190 new car registrations or by 70.7% less than a year ago, whereas "BMW" is fourth with 157 new cars sold.
The greatest fall in the number of cars sold was for "Honda", "Mazda", "Dacia" and "Chevrolet" – 90.2%, 93.2%, 90.1% and 90.1%, respectively. "Skoda", "Hyundai", "Ford", "Opel", "Citroen", "Nissan", "KIA", "Lada", "Suzuki", "Fiat" and "Seat" recorded decreases of over 80%.
Other automobile brands have also seen a fall in new car sales for more than 60-80%.
As Domenikss previously forecast, altogether this year, 6,000 new cars might be sold in Latvia, which would be similar to the showings in 1999.
As reported, 19,192 new cars were registered in Latvia last year, which is by 40.9% less than in 2007.
A fall in new cars sales compared to the data of 2007 started in January, when 17.7% decrease was registered. The number of cars sold still continued to decrease each month – to 39.7% in the first eleven months of 2008, and 40.9% during the whole year.
In 2007, the number of the new cars registered increased by 26.8%, reaching 32,497 units, whereas a year ago it increased by 53%.
