Flight security on the An-2 aircraft was the personal concern of the pilots

It turns out that flight security was the personal concern of the pilots rather than of the company Klaipeda Airlines, the owner of the An-2 aircraft, which crashed above the Baltic Sea and drowned, reports LETA/ELTA, referring to Vakaro zinios.

According to MP Arturas Paulauskas, head of the Seimas Committee on National Security and Defence, a conversation with an employee of the Palanga Air Traffic Control Centre, who was the last one to talk to the pilots Adolfas Maciulis and Alvydas Selmistraitis, took very long.

"The person was very nervous, although, it would seem that it should not happen to somebody with a job like this. Perhaps it is because of the commission. His story is not the main part of the investigation but it will have to be checked if it tallies with all the rest of the available data. Judging from the written material that we have and what the head of the Centre says, the stories do not match by 20 minutes. Another surprising detail was revealed during a conversation with the head of Klaipeda Airlines.

It turns out that all the rescue equipment is not the business of the company. The pilots themselves must take care of them," Paulauskas shared his first impressions.

On Monday, Klaipeda headquarters of the Lithuanian Navy was visited by the Seimas Committee on National Security and Defence, which is carrying out a parliamentary inquiry into the search and rescue operation after the An-2 disaster in the Baltic Sea in mid-May. Meetings with those responsible have revealed some interesting details about the rescue operation. Members of the Seimas Committee on National Security and Defence, who all day yesterday talked to the heads of the Maritime Rescue and Coordination Centre of the Lithuanian Navy, state enterprise Oro Navigacija (Air Navigation), and the Palanga Airport, said that the purpose of the meetings was to review how the air space is controlled. It is already known that the small-scale aviation is currently using the uncontrolled air space and pilots report themselves and keep the contact when they want to, therefore, according to MP Arturas Paulauskas, head of the Seimas Committee, it should be considered whether the current rules are really good.
