Hostelling Latvia: youth tourist accommodations gain increasingly more popularity

According to him, the economy crisis has left a global impact on the tourism sector, however, miscellaneous groups of hospitality services are affected in various ways.
Last year, the Hostelling International booking system www.hihostels.com posted a 14% increase of turnover, compared with year 2007.
In 2008, approximately 1.4 million bookings were made using www.hihostels.com system, the largest increases of the number of bookings made were observed in the U.S., France, Switzerland, Argentina and Belgium.
Turnover of hostels in Riga, which cooperate with Hostelling International, grew by 16% last year. In Riga, the guests spent an average of EUR 13 (LVL 9) per night, the average length of stay was 2.4 nights.
Hostelling International is an international hostel federation, which unites over 4,000 hostels in more than 80 countries of the world. The federation's total turnover last year amounted to EUR 24 million (LVL 17 million).
