Laboratory results: Hotel Jurmala SPA to blame for recent food poisoning involving Swedish delegation

Official laboratory results prove that the entree under suspicion – American butterfish – and specifically, a heightened level of histamine caused by spoilage – were the source and cause of the recent food poisoning incident at Hotel Jurmala SPA, the State Food and Veterinary Service (SFVS) reported yesterday.

In this case, the guilty party is the hotel itself, and its restaurant, SFVS points out.

Histamine is a chemical substance that forms when fish begins to spoil. Absorbed by a human organism, an allergic reaction's symptoms soon appear – neuralgia, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, sometimes hives, writes LETA/Nozare.lv.

As reported, 16 visiting Swedish x-ray technicians were stricken after consuming the aforementioned butterfish in Hotel Jurmala SPA restaurant at the end of September.

SFVS intends to announce the penalty against Hotel Jurmala SPA on October 19. Meanwhile, the hotel must eradicate all noted shortcomings in its storage and handling of food, etc.
