"We used to receive allocations for tourist information centres from the State Tourism Department. The Department informed us that the funding was stopped for some time; therefore, it is only natural that we also suspend our activities, putting new projects aside. It was the Government's decision to open tourist information centres. As far as I know, neither the Government, nor the Economy Ministry or any other authority has decided to liquidate them. I would really hope that these financial problems are only temporary and we will soon resume the funding ," Director General of Investuok Lietuvoje (Invest in Lithuania) Mantas Nocius told ELTA.
According to the head of Investuok Lietuvoje, the centres abroad will not cease operation, but it will be limited, without any new projects launched, informs LETA.
"The staff will not be made redundant because the dismissal means even more money, moreover, we have no information from the Economy Ministry or the Government about a decision to liquidate the centres, thus, we think that these are only temporary financial problems," Nocius noted.
Lithuania has eight tourist information centres operating abroad.
