Experiment in Zolitude causes Maxima roof construction to break

This afternoon, as a result of an investigation experiment, the remaining roof construction of the Maxima supermarket in Riga-Zolitude, failed to bear the weight of water and collapsed, LETA was informed by Toms Sadovskis, the State Police's press representative.

Briefly after 12 noon, the framework did not sustain the pressure of the weight, and the roof construction broke. The roof gave way just as experts had expected. Therefore, the aim of the experiment was achieved and all necessary data gathered.

 

At the experts are processing the data, which they later will analyze, Sadovskis indicated.


The experiment began on April 14, and the police reported that since then, the roof framework continued to deform.

 

On November 21 of 2013, as a result of the cave-in, 54 people lost their lives, but several dozen suffered severe injuries.

 

In connection with the tragedy, the police found forged documents related to the construction, and the perpetrator has already received punishment.
