Latio: greatest demand for apartments in downtown Riga comes from foreign buyers

Just as in the previous months, the greatest demand for apartments in downtown Riga in October 2011 came from foreigners who were looking for apartments in refurbished buildings in Riga's Old Town or Riga center, according to real estate company Latio latest housing survey.

However, there still are few apartments that meet foreign buyers' requirements, Latio notes in the study, writes LETA.

Foreigners who mostly wish to buy property in order to receive Latvia's residence permit most often inquire about apartments that cost EUR 150,000 to EUR 200,000. However, few apartments that meet the prospective buyers' requirements fit within this price bracket, which is why buyers often end up buying more expensive apartments. For these buyers, it is important that the apartment is renovated, located in a building with an elevator and a parking lot.

In the first ten months of the year 2011, real estate deals in Latvia have risen by 14.5% when compared to the first ten months of last year, as the real estate company Latio informs after analyzing the Land and Property Register.

In the first ten months of the year, there has been a 23% increase in apartment deals, as well as a 13.3% increase in deals involving private homes.

In the first ten months of the year, there were 4,900 apartment deals in Riga.
