Riga Circus facade detaches from the building

BC, Riga, 10.03.2016.Print version
The facade of the Riga Circus building on Merkela Street has detached from the building, and has not collapsed yet only because it is propped by the stairways at the entrance, the State Construction Control Bureau's Director Peteris Drukis said in an interview with the Neatkariga newspaper, cites LETA.

"If there are additional loads on the wall, it will collapse on the people on the sidewalk," explained Drukis. An accident may happen any moment, he added.

As reported, the Riga Circus has signed contract with company Buvkore on fortifying the building's outer wall by mid-2015.

At the beginning of the year, Riga Circus reached agreement with Rigas satiksme public transport company on removal of trolley-bus stays from the Riga Circus building walls.

The Riga Circus has been closed since February 11 as the State Construction Control Bureau has concluded that the circus building is not safe to the public.
