The "Top 10" agricultural companies last year were grain cooperative Latraps (EUR 203.383 million turnover), Baltic Agro (EUR 119.93 million turnover), Scandagra Latvia (EUR 53.45 million turnover), Konekesko Latvija (EUR 46.73 million turnover), Pindstrup Latvia (EUR 40.44 million turnover), Balticovo (EUR 39.76 million turnover), Putnu fabrika Kekava (EUR 37.80 million turnover), Starco Eastern Group (EUR 33.65 million turnover), and Mineral Impex (EUR 26.53 million turnover).
CEO of Latraps Edgars Ruza says that grain farmers had a record harvest two years ago, which happened at a time prices grain prices in the world were very high. This season, farmers faced additional costs in order to re-sow winter crops, as well as a significant fall in grain prices due to large global harvest.
"Taking into account the success two years ago, one might think that in 2013/2014 the turnover was stagnating, but there was no decline, and growth is continuing. 2013/2014 has been a period of stability and successful cooperation. We have implemented several innovations as well: we have begun producing malt, equipment sales have gone up, while biodiesel production volume has increased. We are also offering consulting services and training courses for farmers," Ruza says.
