Minister of Agriculture Janis Duklavs (Green Party) met with the Uzbek Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Latvia, Afzal Artikov to discuss the possible solutions to improve the trade of goods and agricultural products between Latvia and Uzbekistan and the cooperation in the field of agricultural education.

Recently, Latvian Rural Advisory and Training Center and the Farmers Council of Uzbekistan signed an agreement on the training of agricultural specialists, a more intensive exchange of information about matters concerning the development of agriculture and farming, and the facilitation of mutual ties between Latvia and Uzbekistan. The contract stipulates an exchange of information between specialists concerning agriculture and farm development.

In the past three years, an increase of Latvian export to Uzbekistan and Uzbek import to Latvia has been observed. The Latvian export index does not exceed the Uzbek index, therefore, Latvia's trade balance with Uzbekistan has been negative in the past three years.
