The DNA profile of the remains was compared with the one of his family members, and they matched.
State Police spokeswoman Sigita Pildava previously informed LETA that, on the basis of the above mentioned, there is reason to believe that the man's remains are connected with the crime committed at Rozhetskin's home shortly before his disappearance.
Rozhetskin (b.1966) was a Russian-born U.S. citizen. He relocated back to Russia in the early 90s.
The body was hidden beneath fallen tree limbs. The State Police believe that it had not been moved and, most likely, had been lying there since the disappearance. It is unlikely that it will be possible to determine specific cause of death.
As reported, when the body was discovered, it was already in a state of decomposition. The contents of the pockets included a credit card belonging to Rozhetskin, and the remains were sent for forensic tests to establish identity.
Rozhetskin disappeared in Jurmala on March 16, 2008. He went missing under suspicious circumstances from his private home in Jurmala, Kapu Street, between 0:15 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. After Rozhetskin went missing, police found his empty SUV and blood traces at his home.
Investigators believe that he had arrived in Latvia for pleasure, not business – to spend time in his Jurmala villa.
Criminal Police Chief Janis Lazdins said that immediately after Rozhetskin went missing, a homicide case was opened, and two suspects detained – his home's security guard and superintendent. However, "both were freed long ago", said Lazdins, adding that the police are still looking for others who may have been involved in the crime.
