Sale of fish products from Latvian Zila laguna banned in U.S.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has ascertained that the products contain "Listeria monocytogenes", which may pose a threat to pregnant women and people with weakened immune system. In healthy people, the bacteria may cause symptoms similar to those of flu.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's website, this concertns herring fillet in oil "Antalja", whereas "consumeraffair.com" website also mentions herring fillets "Matiej" and "Forelka", and salmon fillet.
Zila laguna posted LVL 14.83 million in turnover last year – 64% more than in 2011. The company's profit increased 68% from LVL 118,774 in 2011 to LVL 200,392 last year.
Zila laguna was established in 1997 in Daugavpils Region's Kalkuni County. The company's main business line is fish processing, retail and wholesale trade.
Mihails Kaidanovs owns 89.11% of Zila laguna shares, the other 10.89% belong to Igors Sirsons.
