Rolandas Virsilas, CEO of Svyturys-Utenos Alus, stated that the results of beer sales, as of the first six months this year, were quite good, but they started to worsen since August.
Audrius Vidzys, president of the Lithuanian Association of Breweries, indicated more reasons for the slump in turnover than the forecasted financial crisis. According to him, other factors such as restrictions on beer advertising, growth in the prices for raw materials of beer and the excise duty on alcohol, increased by 10%, contributed to the current situation as well.
Virsilas forecasts that breweries will face a decrease in sales for the second year in a row. According to him, the sales of beer in Lithuania will go down by 2.7 – 3%.
