The minister said that in paying the investment support, bureaucracy has been reduced and control mechanisms have been specified. "Large projects that were stuck because of disputes, are getting into works this year finally. For example renovation of water management in Narva that has been delayed for a long time brings proper drinking water to 64,000 people," explained Pentus-Rosimannus.
In addition to the water management projects, the Environmental Investments Centre (EIC) has granted over 22 million euros of support also to 13 environmental education infrastructure development projects, with which 34 environmental education support centres will be built or renovated and 2,100 study places will be created.
EU structural support helps to achieve environmental aims also in waste management, natural diversity, environmental surveillance and supervision and renewable energy spheres.
EIC data indicate that thus year, considerably more investment support has been paid to euro-projects that improve environment than in earlier years.
