LTL 500 mln EU funds could be allocated to promote wellness and sport in Lithuania

Lithuanian Interior Minister Arturas Melianas is submitting a proposal to the Government for funding of wellness and fitness in the European Union's (EU) Financial Framework 2014-2020.

If the Cabinet accepts the proposal, within seven years 2% of the planned EU structural support, around LTL 500 million (EUR 144.8 million) will be allocated to promote wellness and sport in Lithuania, writes LETA/ELTA.

So far, sport was undeservedly forgotten in the planning of the EU financial assistance priorities and objectives.

If a protocol decision on sports facilities' funding is adopted, the EU Financial Framework 2014-2020 will be complemented with a new task seeking to renew and encourage healthy lifestyle, physical activity and the public infrastructure promoting sports.
