In Latvia, currently 1,500 companies fully or partly based on Estonian capital operate while the number of Latvian companies in Estonia is just 500. On the one hand, Latvia's larger market explains the gap, on the other hand, some investments remain unmade due to shortage of information and lack of knowledge of local circumstances.

Now a common project of the two states has been launched with the support of the European Union that offers the necessary knowhow about neighbors to entrepreneurs of the two states.

"The interest of Latvians towards Estonia has so far been relatively low. With our activities we would like to awake interest in Latvians to use Estonia in further expansion to Scandinavia. Among Estonians, interest does not need to be increased since the interest is high already. Rather, Estonia's smaller and mid-sized companies should be given practical advice and support on how to cope at the Latvian market," said Estonian Chamber of Commerce in Latvia head Hele Lõhmus.
