Snoras collapse revealed what is happening in health care institutions in Lithuania

The collapse of Snoras revealed what is really happening in health care institutions in Lithuania. It turned out that hospitals and health centres that all the time had been complaining about scarce funding in fact have accumulated millions in deposits, instead of spending them on providing health services.

The money is gathered from people who cannot afford waiting in lines for several months. There is no crime in doing that as law permits it, reports LETA/ELTA.

A person who introduced himself as doctor Audrius Simaitis informed the daily Respublika that last year Klaipeda Seamen's Hospital had over 20 million litas (5.8 million euros) deposited in various banks.

Yet, it appears that such affair is completely legal. It is likely that other health care institutions might also have grand sums of money in banks instead of using that money to cure people.

Deputy Chairmperson of the Seimas' Commission for Anticorruption Agne Bilotaite confirmed that the mentioned person had sent her documents proving the hospital's deposits for that sum of money.
