Straujuma hopes Cyprus will comprehend of Latvian farmers and fishermen's interests

Latvia hopes that Cyprus, during its European Union presidency in the second half of 2012, will be comprehending of Latvian farmers and fishermen's interests, Latvian Agriculture Minister Laimdota Straujuma said during a meeting with Cypriot Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Sofoclis Aletraris in Brussels today.
The officials agreed that both countries would develop closer cooperation in the future regarding their agricultural and fishing policies, so that Cyprus would be informed about Latvian and Baltic interests, problems and development opportunities in these areas, the Agriculture Ministry informed Nozare.lv/LETA.
It is highly important to gain Cyprus' understanding of Latvian farmers and fishermen's priorities in the near future, said Straujuma. It is also necessary to explain that Latvia's demand for fair direct payments is justified in terms of equal competition, she added.
