Lithuanian businessmen at EuroBasket 2011 raised prices and miscalculated

The organisers of the European Men Basketball Championship 2011 in Lithuania are happy about the financial success that the tournament brought. Meanwhile the businessmen who tripled hotel and food prices are now sorry as they earned very little.

Probably we will never really learn how much money made Lithuanian businessmen who drastically raised hotel prices, as well as food prices when a cup of coffee would cost 8 litas (2.3 euros) and a glass of beer – 12 litas (3.5 euros), reports LETA/ELTA, referring to Respublika.

Head of the Lithuanian Association of Hotels and Restaurants Evalda Siskauskiene yesterday was trying to convince the daily Respublika that EuroBasket 2011 did not bring any benefit. She admitted that those who wanted to make money to live on for the whole year from foreigners' pockets suffered most of all.

"Our businessmen who tried to rip off foreigners whenever it was possible during the championship were acting both greedily and shortsightedly. I think that even a foreigner who consumed a lot of alcohol in the bar was still able to notice the real prices of it in the shops. The majority of Lithuanian businessmen simply do not know what business culture is. Maybe that is the reason why they so often complain about their hard life – they do not understand that one cannot earn for a year or even one month during one day only," philosopher Vytautas Rubavicius said.
