On Friday, Tallegg will open its new breeding poultry farm, hoping to grow 1.7 million fattening chickens more per year than it currently produces, writes Äripäev.ee/LETA.

The most modern breeding poultry farm in the Baltic region was established in the Anija municipality, at Pääsusilma. The new farm has to guarantee hatching eggs in order to increase the volume of domestic fattening chickens by 1.7 million birds.

The total investment into the farm amounted to 1.1 million euros.

“The consumption of poultry meat in Estonia has grown constantly during the past few years. Even in 2010, despite the overall decline in the sales volume of food,” commented the CEO of Tallegg Teet Soorm.

Minister of agriculture Helir-Valdor Seeder stated that in the segment of poultry meat, Estonia is in a deep trade deficit – it imports poultry rather than exports it. “As consumption of poultry is constantly growing on the global level, it is important to contribute to local poultry farming so that in future the structure of our agricultural sector would comply better with the market demands,” he explained.
