Print versionLatvian State Police Internal Investigation Department officers have detained a State Police Criminal Police officer on suspicion of possessing and selling illegal alcohol.

Police found and confiscated three tons of illegal alcohol from the officer, State Police Chief Artis Velss said on Latvian Radio today.
The man had been under surveillance for about a year and was detained several days ago, informs LETA.
Velss emphasized that the detained officer know police methods in the field very well, thus his detention can be seen as a success for the Internal Investigation Department.
''Our Internal Investigation Department is a very important instrument in getting rid of colleagues who are less honest,'' the state police chief points out.
