Lithuanian farmers are expected to be provided with opportunity to insure vegetables, fruits, and berries' harvest in summer 2011 from damages which might be caused by hail, storm or rainfalls.

Sowing insurance company Vereinigte Hagel has worked out the insurance regulations to offer farmers to insure cabbage, cauliflower, Chinese leaves, carrots, beetroot, onion harvest, apples, pears, strawberries, peas, currant, red currant, plums, great bilberry, blackberry, raspberry and gooseberries against unfavorable weather conditions. The offer was made after prolonged discussions with agriculturers, informs LETA/ELTA.

Lithuanian gardeners are mostly interested in insuring the plants from the spring frost; however, the company initially intends to offer basic insurance plans. The agriculturers could choose to guarantee themselves the coverage of qualitative or quantitative loss, or both. The payment amounts will depend on farming products' breed, place of growth and various circumstances.
