The turnover of the forestry industry enterprise Metsaliitto Latvia reached LVL 59,491,287 in 2007, which is 56% more than in 2006, as data from the Register of Enterprises' company Lursoft reveals.

Profit for the company last year totaled LVL 351,036, which is 11 times less than in 2006, when Metsaliitto Latvia earned LVL 4.19 million in profit.

Metsaliitto Latvia board member Juris Antonevics explained to LETA that the high profit of 2006 was due to a major forest land sales deal and the profit decrease last year results from the fact that no such deals were carried out in 2007.

Assessing the indexes of the first half of this year, Antonevics foresees that, due to the overall economic tendencies, this year the company's turnover could decrease, however the fall will not be very significant.

As reported, the wood processing company Silva Ltd. changed its name to Metsaliitto Latvia Ltd. in 2005.

Metsaliitto is a Latvian-Finnish joint venture that was founded on November 30, 1990.

At the moment, Metsaliitto Latvia is the largest and most modern forestry company in Latvia. The company deals with wood production, reforestation and sells, exports and imports round timber.
