A Chinese company from Liaoning Province bought the Latvian pavilion. The cost of dismantling the pavilion will be covered by "World Expo" organizers. The starting price was LVL 700,000, but during the auction the price was reduced 9 percent due to technical costs. The money received for the Latvian pavilion will be transferred into the state budget, writes LETA.
Economy Minister Artis Kampars (Unity) believes that the relocation of the wind tunnel to Beijing, where it will still bear the name of Latvia, is a great achievement and a good springboard for Latvian companies that wish to do business in China. "This means that Latvia's participation in "World Expo 2010" has achieved a far-reaching economic effect," said Kampars.
It is planned that the wind tunnel will be relocated to Beijing this year already.
As reported, the previous attempt to sell the Latvian pavilion was unsuccessful, as no bidders applied to participate in the auction.
"World Expo 2010" was taking place in Shanghai from May 1 to October 31 this year. The Latvian pavilion at the exhibition is a property of the state of Latvia, which is why the Cabinet of Ministers on November 16 authorized the Economy Ministry to organize an auction of the Latvian pavilion, and transfer the money raised at the auction to the state budget.
