"ASK Riga"

The State Revenue Service said that it would use enforced tax collection in order to recover the unpaid taxes. However, the management of "ASK Riga" maintain that the club does not have any tax debts.

Janis Kuzulis, member of the board at "ASK Riga", which was founded and is supported by the Riga City Council, Defense Ministry, Parex banka and the municipal transportation company Rigas satiksme, announced in a press conference that he could assure that "all players' taxes have been paid" and that information in the press regarding the club's tax debt is incorrect.

However, the Baltic Screen has information that the club has accumulated a large tax debt and probably only paid it off only a few days ago, after the pressure from the Revenue Service. The Revenue Service refuses to disclose the amount of debt, but sources close to "ASK Riga" inform that the total amount of tax debt for the team's 15 players was near LVL 95,000 at the end of June.

The Revenue Service has started enforced tax collection from several "ASK Riga" players. Basketball player Sandis Valters' bank accounts and property have been blocked due to the tax debt. Restrictions have also been imposed on Arnis Vecvagars, whose tax debt is said to be around LVL 10,000.

The Revenue Service has also informed "ASK Riga" players Maris Jucmanis, Ernests Kalve, Raitis Grafs and Edgars Buls about their tax debts.

Contrary to legal requirements, "ASK Riga" also failed to pay guest players' taxes: Aaron Bramlett's tax debt is close to LVL 9,000, Aerick Sanders' tax debt is LVL 14,000, Dwayne Broyles – LVL 10,000 and Curtis Millage – LVL 13,000.
