EC could penalize Latvia for failure to implement media directive

Print versionThe European Commission (EC) has warned Latvia and 11 other EU member-states about non-implementation of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive, deciding to forward to Latvia its argumentation on the breach, as LETA was informed by EC Representation in Latvia spokesman Janis Krastins.

Latvia now has two months to inform EC about full implementation, or face possible legal action.
As reported, President Valdis Zatlers decided this week to return to Saeima three controversial bills that the parliament passed recently, including the Law on Electronic Mass Media, calling it "incomplete."
