Cesu alus posts LVL 135,000 in net profit in 2009

The company has observed that the demand for beer in PET bottles has been growing because the proportion of beer in PET bottles has increased from 45% in 2008 to 51% in 2009. The demand for beer cans has also increased, from 12.6% in 2008 to 14% in 2009.
On the other hand, the demand for cider and alcoholic cocktails fell approximately 30%, and continues to decrease this year. In the cider segment, Cesu alus market share is 42% (1% increase), and in the market of alcoholic cocktails – 40% (4% up), writes LETA.
In the segment of non-alcoholic beverages, Cesu alus recorded a 32% growth. The beverage "Ulmanlaiku kvass" from Cesu alus was singled out by the market research company Nielsen as the best newcomer to the Latvian market of non-alcoholic beverages.
On the market of energy drinks, Cesu alus saw a 30% drop in sales, nevertheless, the company's energy drinks brand "Dynamit" still has a market share of 35% in Latvia.
Investments in the company's development reached LVL 1 million last year. The largest investments were made in new wine fermentation tanks and procurement of more beer fermenting tanks.
In 2010, major investments will be made in the development of Cesu alus packaging industry, which is necessary because of the company's continuing development. LVL 100,000 has been invested in the development of a new alcoholic cocktails brand, "Cesu 14%". LVL 450,000 are being invested in modernization of production.
Cesu alus is the second largest brewery in Latvia, and the oldest brewery in Northern Europe, it is believed to have been founded in 1590.
In a survey of Latvia's most valuable companies by the business magazine "Kapitals", IBS Prudentia and "NASDAQ OMX Riga", Cesu alus ranked 66th in 2009, when the company's value was assessed at LVL 22.01 million, whereas in 2008, the company was in 76th place with an estimated value of LVL 23.62 million.
