Cheese distributor Estover boost its sales revenue by 7% in 2009 in comparison to the year 2008, but lost a tenth of its turnover in the year-on-year comparison and more than 80% in profits, writes Äripäev.ee/LETA.

Estover’s turnover amounted to nearly 300 million kroons last year and the earnings totalled 470,000 kroons.

“According to the data available to us, consumption of cheese did not decrease much in terms of volumes last year in Estonia, but consumers bought much more cheaper products and benefited from discount campaign sales,” stated Kai Rimmel, managing director of Estover OÜ.

“The prices that fell by up to 30% and organising numerous discount campaigns left a significant impact on the company’s profits, but in view of the increase in Estover’s sales volumes, we estimate that our position on the Estonian cheese market is still stable and solid,” she remarked.

Estover OÜ along with the cheese producing enterprise Põltsamaa Meierei Juustutööstuse OÜ are subsidiaries of United Estover Group OÜ and has been active in the cheese, butter and cheese curd sales since 1992.
