Today Diena also features an address to the readers by the newspaper's acting editor in chief Dace Andersone, in which she pledges that the newspaper's fundamental values – quality, responsibility, freedom of speech – will not change. Andersone also informs that Diena will remain an independent newspaper not representing any political or economic forces.
"These are the values that I believe in, the values that must be the cornerstone of quality journalism," writes Andersone.
As reported, publishing house Dienas mediji editor in chief Nellija Locmele and the editor in chief of the newspaper Diena Anita Brauna on Friday submitted their resignations and left the newspaper. Several other employees submitted their resignations as well, including the respectable commentator Pauls Raudseps.
The journalists who have left the newspaper Diena communicate with their readers via the "citadiena.wordpress.com" blog, but they do not rule out launching a new newspaper in the future, as Locmele told LETA.
Locmele explained that the blog was created as an emergency information channel when the conflict with the joint-stock company Diena board chairman Aleksandrs Tralmaks began, and the blog was to enable Locmele and her supporters' communication with the readers if they had to leave the newspaper already in September. Locmele said that there had been several attempts to release her from Dienas mediji before she left herself on Friday.
