Ilze Aizsilniece elected president of Latvian Medical Association

Today members of the Latvian Medical Association elected the organization’s vice president Ilze Aizsilniece as its president, the association’s representative Sendija Burka-Saicanova told LETA.

Aizsilniece was elected with 136 votes to 66, while three
voting slips were not valid.
At present there are 2,541 active members in the Latvian
Medical Association.
Aizsilniece was the only candidate for the position. Another
candidate, Liga Kozlovska, also applied for the post, but her application did
not meet the necessary requirements, even though Kozlovska herself disagrees
with this statement of the association’s board.
Latvian Medical Association’s president Peteris Apinis has
decided to not to run for the position repeatedlly. "My office expires on
November 23, and I have decided to look for a new job," he said in an
interview with Neatkariga daily earlier.
