Estonian entrepreneurship minister looking for cooperation opportunities in Japan

During a visit to Japan Estonian Entrepreneurship Minister Liisa Oviir met with management of Japan's biggest technology company Fujitsu as well as head of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), with whom she discussed expanding cooperation areas and creating new cooperation opportunities in the field of ICT, informs LETA/BNS.

At JETRO Oviir met with its president Yasuhi Akahoshi and vice president Shigeki Maeda, with whom she discussed the latest developments in the two countries' business relations. JETRO representatives have regularly visited Estonia and acknowledged the country's development. "Estonia has potential to become an international business center in its region like Singapore is in Asia," they said.

 

At the meeting Oviir acknowledged the success of the Japanese in attracting foreign investments. "It is a field for the development of which we are working hard," she said.

 

The minister was accompanied by a 10-member business delegation at the meeting.


At the meeting with the management of Fujitsu, Oviir said that all sides benefit from strengthening cooperation in the ICT field.

 

Oviir said that Estonia is ready to share its experience in the field of eID, digital signature and the X-Road platform.

 

Fujitsu has been operating in Estonia since 1992. Oviir asked about the company's future plans in Estonia and invited Takeshi Nakajima, a member of the management board, to take part in the ICT week and Latitude59 conference taking place in Tallinn at the end of May.

 

Oviir is visiting Japan with a 25-member business delegation as a member of the delegation of Prime Minister Taavi Roivas.
