At a job fair organized by the Estonian Unemployment Insurance Fund on Tuesday for the people made redundant by Viru Keemia Grupp (VKG), businesses of the region had 180 permanent jobs to offer, reports LETA/BNS.

"This fair was meant for the people laid off at VKG, so that they would find a new job. We especially invited to the fair companies which have specific and concrete jobs to offer," Anneki Teelahk, head of the Unemployment Insurance Fund's department for East-Viru county, told BNS.

She said 17 businesses were represented at the fair, most of them industrial companies that are more of less well suited for workers of VKG for their profile.

"The people who work at VKG have worked there for a very long time and have grown together with the company. Finding a new job is difficult for them, many don't even know how to write a CV," Teelahk said.

Of the major employers who have jobs to offer in the area, Teelahk named earth metals producer Molycorp, furniture maker Flexa, meat processing company Rakvere Lihakombinaat, Viru Olu brewery and retailer Maxima Eesti.

Citing a continuous significant decline in global oil prices, VKG announced in the middle of this month it will conserve its oil plants using the Kiviter technology and make approximately 500 employees redundant.
