Eesti Loto: amendment to cut conventional ticket sales by 25%

BC, Tallinn, 18.12.2015.Print version
The legislative amendment stepping into force from the year 2016 that requires buyers of lottery tickets to identify themselves is estimated to reduce the sales of lottery tickets over the counter by up to a quarter, Eesti Loto says, cites LETA.

The supervisory board of Eesti Loto on Wednesday approved the state owned lottery company's budget for 2016. The chairman of the management board, Heiki Kranich, told BNS the budget takes into account the anticipated effect of the legislative amendment on the number of lottery tickets sold.

"We have estimated that the legislative amendment will cut the number of tickets bought at terminals by about 24%, although the reduction probably will be bigger in the first months," Kranich said. "At the same time, the reduction in the number of tickets sold at terminals is made up for by a general increase in the number of tickets sold via internet," Kranich said.

In buying a lottery ticket online the buyer is identified automatically and the name checked against the gaming self-exclusion list.
