As the prime minister points out, coalition partners have made the decision to pass the necessary legislation, so that those companies operating in the affected industry could receive tax breaks.
''I will also request Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics to assist in helping these companies find new markets in the United States and Canada,'' Straujuma said, adding that the Agriculture Ministry will evaluate the other proposals for assistance.
Meanwhile, the head of the Union of Latvian Fish Processing Industry Didzis Smits admitted after today's meeting that the meeting itself was constructive, and that the government was very accommodating.
As reported, Russian food safety supervising board Rosselkhoznadzor announced last week that as of June 4, fish and fish product imports from Latvia and Estonia are banned.
Following Russia's embargo on Latvian fish produce, Agriculture Minister Janis Duklavs (Greens/Farmers) will request support from both the government and the European Commission.
