Investment Agency: Chinese market certainly offers potential to Latvian businessmen

BC, Riga, 09.06.2015.Print version
The Chinese market certainly offers potential to Latvian businessmen, the Latvian Investment and Development Agency's representative in China Ieva Jakobsone-Bellomi said in an interview with Latvian Radio, reports LETA.

She said that in order to successfully sell a product, it is important to focus on its marketing and packaging. These aspects play a huge role on the Chinese market, as in this case, the commodity is then seen as a luxury product, and thus the demand among the upper class increases. For example, a recent trade fair in Shanghai showed that the Chinese are highly interested in Latvian-produced sprats, as the packaging was very appealing.

China is a comparatively polluted country, which is why demand for "green" and innovative products is high, the agency's representative said.

Jakobsone-Bellomi said that there are significant cultural differences between China and Latvia, however, business matters are solved comparatively fast and successfully, as both countries have excellent political relations.

As reported, "Rosselkhoznadzor" announced last week that as of June 4, fish and fish product imports from Latvia and Estonia are banned.

In May, the Certification and Accreditation Administration of the People's Republic of China (CNCA) has officially given permission to 11 Latvian fish processing companies to begin exports to China.
