The heads of Lithuania's Food and Veterinary Service (VMVT) informed the Egyptian delegation about how Lithuania implements food and veterinary control. It also provided detailed information about Lithuania's meat sector, control of contagious animal diseases, animal labelling, identification and traceability.
Veterinary certificate model for beef export has been coordinated during the meeting at the VMVT. Lithuanian companies that have the certificate and meet certain requirements will be authorised to export products to Egypt.
The Egyptian delegation also visited the National Food and Veterinary Risk Assessment Institute where they were shown how laboratory testing was being carried out.
The guests will also meet with representatives of the Spiritual Centre of the Lithuanian Sunni Muslims (the Muftiate of Lithuania) and will view procedures in a meat processing company in order to ascertain that Lithuanian-made products meet all the requirements.
The competent Egyptian institution allows import only from those companies that receive authorisation from Egypt's official inspectors.
