FBI includes Latvian-born Russian citizen on its list of most wanted hackers

The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has added five persons wanted for cyber-crimes to its ''Most Wanted'' list, including Latvian-born Russian citizen Alexsey Belan, informs LETA.

According to information available on the FBI's official web-site, Belan, who was born in Riga in 1987, is wanted for computer intrusion, aggravated identity theft, and fraud in connection with a computer.

 

The FBI informs that between January of 2012 and April of 2013, Belan is alleged to have intruded the computer networks of three major United States-based e-commerce companies in Nevada and California. He is alleged to have stolen their user databases which he then exported and made readily accessible on his server. Belan allegedly stole the user data and the encrypted passwords of millions of accounts and then negotiated the sales of the databases.

 

The FBI also points out that Belan has Russian citizenship and is known to hold a Russian passport. He speaks Russian and may travel to Russia, Greece, Latvia, the Maldives, and Thailand. He may wear eyeglasses and dye his brown hair red or blond. He was last known to be in Athens, Greece.

 

The FBI is offering a reward of up to USD 100,000 for information leading to the arrest of Alexsey Belan.

 

Another Latvia-born cyber criminal also remains on the FBI's ''Most Wanted'' list - Peteris Sahurovs, who was born in Rezekne (eastern Latvia) in 1989.

 

Sahurovs is wanted for his alleged involvement in an international cybercrime scheme that took place from February of 2010 to September of 2010. The scheme utilized a computer virus that involved the online sale of fraudulent computer security programs that defrauded Internet users of more than USD 2 million.

 

The FBI is offering a reward of up to USD 50,000 for information leading to the arrest of Sahurovs.
