Estonian Police and Border Guard Board buys 1.35 mln new passports

Estonian Police and Border Guard Board (PBB) will start issuing passports with new security elements from 2014 and thus, concluded on Monday a contract for buying 1.35 million new blank passports over the next five years, LETA/Delfi reports.

The new travel documents with new security elements will be issued starting January 2 and they will contain a passport photo in full colour that can be seen in UV light.

 

PBB director general Elmar Vaher and international security documents company Gemalto OY CEO Tommi Nordberg signed on Monday a contract with maximum volume of up to 11 million euros for buying blank documents and services necessary for issuing Estonian passports in 2014-2018.

 

A procurement was carried out for contract partner in 2012; the winner, Gemalto OY, produces blank travel documents for 25 states, including the USA, Sweden and France. Estonia has cooperated with the company since 2006 when the contract for issuing travel documents that is valid now was concluded.
