Estonian government appoints Elmar Vaher as Police and Border Guard Board chief

The Estonian government appointed on Thursday current North Estonian Police Prefect Elmar Vaher as the new director general of the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

Elmar Vaher starts working on May 2 in his new job and his term of office will last till May 1, 2018.

 

The previous director general of the Police and Border Guard Board Raivo Küüt announced of his resignation last autumn over the scandal involving use of non-calibrated traffic speed radars. His last day of work was February 28.

 

Elmar Vaher (born 1975) has worked in the police system for many years; he was the head of central criminal police in 2005-2008 and the North Estonian police prefect since 2008.
