Immunity Board will protect Lithuanian police officers themselves

Print versionThe Police Department has set up the Immunity Board that will seek to protect police officers themselves so that they would not be illegally influenced on their duty. The Board will also investigate possible violations and crimes of the police personnel.

The unit will carry out operational activities and pre-trial investigations. Greater attention will be paid to the corruption prevention and elimination of corruption causes, also to the corruption risk evaluation and its reduction, writes LETA/ELTA.
Minister of the Interior Raimundas Palaitis expects more efficiency from the Immunity Board.
"Officers in the police system have many opportunities and little likelihood of being caught, therefore I welcome the emergence of such unit," the minister said.
