Petras Vaida, BC, Vilnius, 22.02.2010.Print version
The SoDra reform provides for extending the retirement age up to 65 years, transferring the collection of contributions to the State Tax Inspectorate, withdrawing the payment of new state pensions of first and second pillar, transferring insurance against accidents at work to private insurance companies, granting the status of budgetary institutions to the Lithuanian Labour Exchange and SoDra. It is proposed to provide services to persons with special needs rather than pay them compensation.

As of 2012, an opportunity to choose maternal benefits will be provided – women who decide to take a one-year leave will be paid 100 % of their salaries, and women who take a two-year leave will be paid 60 % of their salaries in the first year and 40 % in the second year, writes LETA/ELTA.

Labour Minister Donatas Jankauskas announced these changes of the first stage of the SoDra reform after the Government's meeting on Monday. They will be carried out in 2011-2012. However, the minister did not disclose what financial effect these changes could bring. These proposals are still to be decided upon not only by the Government, but also by parliamentary groups, social partners. According to Jankauskas, the Government will confirm the concept of the SoDra reform in the coming few weeks.
