Estonian parliament extends term of validity of passports to 10 years

The parliament in Estonia (Riigikogu) here passed a legislative amendment on February 23rd under which Estonian travel passports and alien's passports issued by Estonia will start to be issued for a period of ten years instead of five years, informs LETA/BNS.

By way of exception, passports would continue to be issued for five years to Estonian citizens under 15 years of age.
The amendments passed in the 101-seat chamber with 82 votes would also make more flexible the requirements as regards the photograph eligible for a passport.
The purpose of the change is to reduce the costs related to the issuance of passports and frequency of procedures.
The requirements applied to a passport photograph were eased to make it easier for a person confined to bed because of illness or disability to apply for a document.
