Currently, the National Audit Office of Lithuania (VK) is drawing up Public Audit Strategy for 2016-2020, therefore the expectations of all parties, which use its results – both those of every Lithuanian citizen and of international institutions – are closely examined. Such listening to expectations creates an added value to the work of the VK.

In the meeting, Walter Deffaa congratulated Arunas Dulkys on his new position as Auditor General and showed an interest in diverse experience of the VK. The VK is the only Supreme Audit Institution in the whole EU, which at the same time implements the national programme of financial and performance audits, conducts mandatory regulatory audits of EU assistance, as well as monitors the fiscal discipline of the State budget. In other EU countries this extent of functions is divided among several institutions.

"We are pleasantly surprised at the European Commission's high appreciation of the quality of work performed by Lithuanian auditors. The VK was invited to share its experience on audit quality management with all European Union structural funds audit institutions. It will provide an excellent opportunity for us to test our public audit vision in an international auditing community, which maintains deeply rooted audit traditions," said Auditor General Arunas Dulkys after the meeting.

Possible areas and trends of cooperation between European Commission auditors and Lithuanian public auditors in auditing the implementation of EU funds were also discussed in Brussels.
