GEFCO launches a new rail transport service linking Asia and Europe

BC, Riga, 09.06.2014.Print version
GEFCO China is developing its multimodal offer and establishing a new door-to-door rail transport service between Asia and Europe. This solution will allow the company to use the vast Chinese national rail network to transport goods to more than ten countries in Asia and Europe, including Kazakhstan, Russia, Belorussia, Uzbekistan, Germany and Hungary, informed BC Dita Bukovska.

GEFCO's local and international customers will thus benefit from costs, which are 90% lower than those of air freight, as well as a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.

"More and more Chinese companies are looking to conquer foreign markets and GEFCO's priority in China is to assist its local customers in their international development" stresses Andrea Ambrogio, Managing Director of GEFCO China. "This new multimodal service is perfectly in line with this approach and will energise cross-border exchanges between China, Russia, Central Asia and Europe."

GEFCO Italy has been attributed the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status in its most complete form, that is, the AEOF certification "Customs Simplification" / "Security and Safety". This status, valid indefinitely throughout the entire European Union, testifies to GEFCO's financial solvency and reliability in several sectors, such as customs engineering, the transparency of procedures, compliance to staff safety standards and the protection of IT systems.

"We are proud to have obtained this status, a true guarantee of quality and reliability which reinforces the extent of our range of services. It is a question of recognition which allows us to offer our customers a number of advantages on a European scale, such as priority access to customs declarations and the reduction of customs clearance periods," states  Stefano Grassi, GEFCO Italy Legal and Customs Services Manager.

At present, 8 GEFCO subsidiaries hold full Authorised Economic Operator status (Spain, France, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, the United Kingdom, Slovakia), 3 subsidiaries have AEO status for customs simplifications (Germany, Belgium, Slovenia) and 2 subsidiaries are AEO certified in safety and security (Portugal, Hungary). The GEFCO Group aims to eventually have all of its subsidiaries AEO certified.

GEFCO Spain has signed a two-year contract with the Panstar Group, Spanish leader in the production and distribution of frozen bread dough and breakfast pastries. As part of the contract, GEFCO Spain will ensure the cold-storage transport from Panstar’s production sites located in Valencia and Girona to numerous retail outlets across Spain. In total, 30,000 tonnes of products will be transported over the two-year period.

“Given the nature of our products, we needed a viable and flexible provider. GEFCO was able to adapt to our needs and offer us a tailored service. Furthermore GEFCO has the calibre of an international group, which will be able to accompany us in our development”, underlines Fernando Sebastia, Director of Transport and Planning at the Panstar Group.

GEFCO France handled the transport of a Bugatti Veyron for the Emir of Qatar, an operation managed by its Roissy depot. Valued at 1.8 million euros, it is the fastest convertible in the world. GEFCO France also provided a dedicated assistance service with the supervision of the vehicle's stowage up to its handover to the airline company.

"We established a customised logistics service for the Emir of Qatar. Once again, GEFCO was able to illustrate its historic know-how in special transports, a domain with stringent requirements," explains Olivier Vaillant, Manager of the GEFCO Special Transports activity.
