In the first quarter of 2014, accommodation establishments received 17% more foreign tourists and 14.1% more domestic tourists compared to the same quarter in 2013.

"We are pleasantly surprised to see the growth in the number of foreign tourists in nine out of ten most important Lithuania's inbound tourism markets. Increase at double-digit rate is observed in all the neighbouring countries: Belarus (+27%), Latvia (+20%), Estonia (+28%), Germany (11.4%), Nordic countries – Finland (+20.3%) and Norway (+10.4%). The flow of Russian tourism, which has been increasing rapidly for several years in a row, still has increased by 8%; the flow of tourists from Poland grew by 1%. Only the flow of tourist from the United Kingdom has declined (-5%)," said Raimonda Balniene, Director at the VTD.

Ukrainian tourists have become a surprise of the first quarter, as the increase in the flow of Ukrainian tourists reached even 87%.

In the first quarter of 2014, the number of foreign tourists accommodated in Vilnius hotels and motels increased by 20.2%, while the number of accommodated local tourists grew by 11%.
