Latvia-based company Dartz creates special armored SUV for Chinese market

Latvia-based bespoke car builder Dartz has come up with a seriously chunky, heavily-armored SUV designed to appeal to the super-rich in China, the DPA news agency reports, cites LETA.

The ''Prombron White Horse'' is a dazzling white-painted version of Dartz’s ''Black Dragon'' announced earlier, with some model-specific gold highlights and the overall air of a bunker on wheels.

Dartz aims to sell just 12 units of the quirky monster, which has an extended wheelbase to provide more rear-seat legroom. The cladding includes armor-glass as thick as telephone books. The windows can withstand a volley from a Kalashnikov assault rifle.

The Dartz SUVs take a design cue from military vehicles. According to the maker, in the case of the ''White Horse'', the acronym SUV stands for safety utility vehicle.

The ''White Horse'' can be powered by a General Motors sourced turbo-diesel V8 engine or a petrol-burning ''Vortec'' unit.

Dartz says it will officially unveil the ''White Horse'' at a major trade show soon and it will go on sale in China from the summer.

Dartz says discretion prevents it from publicizing the price tag, but industry sources said the SUV would probably cost around USD 1 million.
