Estonian company Marketex Marine was awarded a contract by the Norwegian company OCEA to build the largest fish farming steel barge in the world, informs BC BLRT Grupp press secretary Katerina Danilova.

"We are proud to have been awarded this contract to manufacture the largest fish farming barge in the world which will be operated by the largest producer of fish in the world. We hope it’s the first of many similar sized barges” said Darren Edwards, the Board Member of Marketex Marine.

During the past 10 years Estonian specialists have manufactured the world’s only floating fish farming laboratory used for fish research for the Tromsø Univesrity (Norway) and over 250 barges for the fish farming industry, that operate in different parts of the world. Approximately 150 of those were delivered to OCEA. „We believe it’s the experience gained during this time and the quality of our specialists and Project Management team that gave OCEA the confidence to place such a significant order with us today“ said Mr. Edwards.

The barge will be 30 meters long and 18 meters wide with a storage capacity of 750 metric tons and is scheduled for delivery in summer 2014. The barge will be manufactured and delivered on a turnkey basis – Marketex Marine specialists will provide all the necessary works starting with the design, construction and welding through to final testing of equipment.

The company offers large and complex turnkey solutions from steel, stainless steel and aluminum for small shipbuilding, fish farming industry and the renewable energy market. Marketex Marine was founded in the process of restructuring BLRT Marketex. Marketex Marine is a part of BLRT Grupp, one of the largest industrial holdings in the Baltic States.
